The 49ers’ star offseason acquisition, said he expects nothing less than a breakout year from one 49ers player.

All’s well that ends well. That’s certainly how Raheem Mostert feels at least.

Raheem Mostert got his amended contract, rewarding his performance. Clearly, though, it went deeper for Mostert than wanting to simply be paid what he’s worth.

So, the 49ers are down a tackle.

There was a healthy level of optimism in Santa Clara on Friday, as the 49ers packed their suitcases and headed to their flight to Tampa, Florida.

On Thursday, the 49ers announced that Jimmie Ward had broken a finger.

The 49ers’ secondary is split 40/60 young players to veterans; compared to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ secondary, the group might as well be ancient.

Jimmie Ward gets at a pretty astounding rate. The now sixth-year free safety has been placed on season-ending injured reserve in four out five of his NFL seasons, along with two stints on the physically unable to perform list including this season.

When the 49ers’ receiving group split out into unit drills as it did on Wednesday, there was one key element missing.

The 49ers have yet to make any moves on the waiver wire with their No. 2 priority, but that doesn’t mean the team is content with where its roster stands.

It’s hot in Tampa, Florida, and very humid; the feeling is akin to that of bathing in a steaming bowl of soup.
