The swift nature of the process — within 28 hours of being released, Sherman had joined a division rival — left many questions regarding the thought process behind the first splashy transaction of the offseason.

After multiple reports on Saturday afternoon, the 49ers officially signed four-time Pro Bowl cornerback Richard Sherman to a three-year deal, the team announced via press release on Sunday. The release also included the first comments from general manager John Lynch about the signing, and detailed what he believes Sherman can bring to the table for the 49ers.

After being traded to the Los Angeles Rams, it was reported that cornerback Aqib Talib rejected a move to the San Francisco 49ers.
