Pittsburgh Steelers starting guard Isaac Seumalo sustained an apparent pectoral injury during practice, ESPN reported on Wednesday.

Per the report, Seumalo is undergoing tests to determine the severity of the injury.

The news comes on the same day that coach Mike Tomlin announced veteran quarterback Russell Wilson will start for the Steelers when they open the season Sept. 8 on the road against the Atlanta Falcons.

Wilson, who led the Seattle Seahawks to a Super Bowl title a decade ago, had been locked in a battle with fourth-year quarterback Justin Fields.

Seumalo, 30, started all 17 games during his first season with the Steelers in 2023.

A Super Bowl champion with Philadelphia, Seumalo has started 77 of the 98 games in which he has played with the Eagles (2016-22) and Steelers.

Should Seumalo be sidelined, Pittsburgh can turn to second-year player Spencer Anderson or fourth-round pick Mason McCormick at the guard position.
