The Boston Red Sox are reportedly turning to a divisional rival for catching help.

ESPN reported Saturday that the Red Sox are finalizing a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays to acquire catcher Danny Jansen for a trio of prospects. ESPN reported one of the players headed to the Blue Jays is infielder Cutter Coffey, a second-round pick in 2022.

The Red Sox began Saturday in third place in the American League East, 5 1/2 games behind the first-place Baltimore Orioles. They also opened the day one game out of the final AL wild-card slot. The Blue Jays are last in the East.

Jansen, 29, is batting .212 with six home runs and 18 RBIs in 61 games this season. In seven seasons, he is a .222 hitter with 71 home runs and 214 RBIs. He hit double-digit home runs in three straight seasons entering 2024, including a career-best 17 last season.

The Red Sox drafted Coffey, 20, out of high school two years ago. With High-A Greenville this season, Coffey is batting .238 with 14 home runs and 46 RBIs. He would also bring defensive versatility to the deal, having played 21 games at shortstop and 31 at third base.
