New York Giants wide receiver/returner Gunner Olszewski will be out “for a little while,” coach Brian Daboll said Saturday, with NFL Network reporting it’s due to a groin injury that happened at practice.

Olszewski, 27, is expected to be sidelined for two to four weeks, according to the report.

He is listed first on the depth chart for both punt and kick returner, with Isaiah McKenzie the top reserve. McKenzie handled the bulk of the returns on Saturday in the Giants’ 28-10 preseason road loss to the Houston Texans.

The Giants signed Olszewski in October after he was waived by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He played in 10 games for the Giants and returned 23 punts for 273 yards (11.9 average), including one touchdown. In 65 games over parts of five seasons for the New England Patriots (2019-21), Steelers (2022-23) and Giants, Olszewski has returned 98 punts for an 11.9-yard average and two TDs, as well as 41 kickoff returns for a 22-yard average.

While with the Patriots in 2020, he was selected first-team All-Pro after leading the league with 346 total punt return yards and a 17.3 average. He also returned a punt for a touchdown.

Olszewski, who has four career starts at wide receiver, also has 15 receptions for 180 yards and one touchdown in his career.
