Oklahoma State’s defense too much for Tulsa

Bryce Thompson had 15 points and four assists to help Oklahoma State beat host Tulsa 76-55 on Wednesday.Abou Ousmane added 13 points and seven rebounds in the win. Marchelus Avery and Brandon Newman each scored 11 points off the bench for Oklahoma State (5-2), which had lost two of its past three games playing.Dwon Odom had 12 points and five rebounds and Braeden Carrington added nine points and three steals for the Golden Hurricane (4-5), who have lost five of their past six games.Oklahoma State established its defense early, holding Tulsa to 39.1 percent shooting in the first half. The score remained close for the majority of the first half before Oklahoma State closed on a 15-7 run to take a 39-26 lead into the break.Thompson and Ousmane each scored nine points as the Cowboys shot 55.2 percent from the floor in the half. Odom, Carrington and Tyshawn Archie each scored six points before halftime for the Golden Hurricane.Carrington hit a 3-pointer to trim Tulsa’s deficit to 39-29 with 19:19 left but the Golden Hurricane went more than two minutes without a field goal. Avery’s layup pushed Oklahoma State’s lead to 56-38 with 8:06 left and Newman’s 3-pointer expanded the Cowboys’ advantage to 65:45 with 5:26 remaining.
