Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert told reporters Friday that he sustained a high-ankle sprain in last weekend’s victory over the Carolina Panthers.

Sporting a heavily taped right foot, Herbert said his ailing ankle was “not great” but noted that it has felt better with each passing day.

Herbert said he was unsure if he will play for the Chargers (2-0) on Sunday against the host Pittsburgh Steelers (2-0). The team officially listed him as questionable.

Herbert did not miss a snap after having his legs trapped under Panthers linebacker DJ Johnson during Los Angeles’ 26-3 victory at Carolina this past Sunday.

The Pro Bowl quarterback missed Wednesday’s practice and was limited during Thursday’s session.

Herbert, 26, has completed 67.4 percent of his passes for 274 yards with three touchdowns and one interception in two games this season.

Easton Stick would get the nod over Taylor Heinicke should Herbert be unable to go Sunday, coach Jim Harbaugh said earlier in the week.

Los Angeles also listed wide receiver Joshua Palmer (calf, elbow), linebacker Bud Dupree (illness), safety Alohi Gilman (knee) and cornerback Ja’Sir Taylor (fibula) as questionable versus Pittsburgh. Linebacker Junior Colson (hamstring) was ruled out for the contest.
