The timing is not great.
In the midst of a three-game losing streak, the Warriors will be without Stephen Curry for at least one game, after Tuesday’s news that he’s sustained a sprained right knee according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
The good news is that Charania says Curry is not supposed to miss much time, but it’s still unclear how long he’ll be out. Curry on the shelf will likely mean Chris Paul will take over the starting point guard duties, and Brandin Podziemski and Cory Joseph will split time backing him up.
The injury appeared to take place in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Wolves, when Curry was knocked to the floor by two Minnesota players after a drive and kick. Curry held his knee after the play but remained in the game.
Though a serious injury seems to have been avoided, the injury is obviously a serious blow to the 6-5 Warriors in the short term. Curry is putting up MVP-type numbers through the first 11 games, averaging 30 points on 47.5% shooting and 42.8% from 3. He has helped Golden State tread water while nearly every other starter has struggled offensively. Amazingly, Curry is the only member of the team to score at least 20 points in a game so far this season.
After a rematch with the Wolves on Tuesday, Golden State faces the Thunder at home on Thursday night.
