Patrick Bailey saved the Giants from what would have been their worst loss of the season.
Entering Sunday on a four-game losing streak including two straight to Bruce Bochy’s Rangers, Logan Webb mowed down the Texas lineup for what looked to be a complete game shutout. With the final out at the plate and the Giants leading 1-0, Webb gave up a double. It was enough for manager Gabe Kapler to pull him after 8 and 2/3.
Camilo Doval entered and gave up an infield hit that scored the run from second, before things turned disastrous in the 10th when he balked home the go-ahead run.
Then it was the Giants’ turn to wrench victory from the jaws of defeat. With two outs and a man on, Bailey blasted a line drive home run over the left-field wall off former Giant Will Smith.
It turned an extremely depressing loss into a miraculous win, gave Webb the result he earned and got the Giants off the schneid.
