Frank Gore is back.
The franchise’s all-time leader rusher is rejoining the organization’s front office in a “football advisor category,” the team said in a statement.
“He’ll go out on the road with some of our road scouts to make school calls,” John Lynch said. “He is a smart football mind, and we want to tap into it and he wants to learn from us, so it’s a good thing for everyone involved.”
Gore has been around the organization this summer, learning the ropes of the personnel side with Lynch and assistant general manager Adam Peters. Gore was sitting in on pre-Draft meetings in April according to ESPN. Gore has said in the past that his goal was to work on the personnel side with the 49ers.
Gore was a third-round draft pick by the 49ers in 2005 and rushed for 11,073 rushing yards during his career in SF, making five Pro Bowls and the NFL’s All-Decade team for the 2010s.
