If the latest odds are any indication, a Shohei Ohtani trade at the deadline could result in Giants’ fans worst nightmare.
According to BetOnline, the Dodgers are listed as the second-most likely team to acquire Ohtani if he leaves the Angels at the deadline or via free agency. The Angels are reportedly listening to trade offers for Ohtani because he’s scheduled to become a free agent this offseason and not expected to stay.
The odds for him to head to the other LA team are +400, meaning a $100 dollar bet would net $400 in winnings if he goes to the Dodgers.
The Giants are listed with the fifth best odds at +700, behind the Yankees in first place (+300), Mets in third place (+600) and Mariners in fourth (+700).
Despite the odds, it’s a bit hard to imagine the Angels trading Ohtani to a team in the same city. There will be a number of teams vying for the two-way player’s services, so the Dodgers’ offer would have to blow everyone out of the water in order for the Angels to pull the trigger, one would assume.
If Ohtani is indeed traded at the deadline, he will still become a free agent unless he is extended by the acquiring team before the offseason. BetOnline has set the over/under for his new contract at $549 million.
