The Giants have some juice.

With the injection of youthful talent from the likes of Casey Schmitt, Patrick Bailey and others, including some in the pipeline expected to join the team this season, the Giants are more compelling than last season.

As it stands now, San Francisco is 5.5 games back of the Diamondbacks and Dodgers for the NL West lead, and 2.5 games out of the Wild Card.

With an enticing foundation, Farhan Zaidi says he’s willing to wheel and deal.

In a Sunday episode of Front Office Show with MLB Network Radio’s Jim Bowden and Jim Duquette, Zaidi said the team will be active at the trade deadline.

“We think we have everything we need to compete within the walls of our clubhouse, but the trade deadline is a long ways away,” Zaidi said. “Injuries can happen, other things can happen. As we approach it, it’s really a goal of ours to be in the playoffs this year. So, I think we’ll be aggressive when we get to [the trade deadline].”

San Francisco is, at the very least, in the picture. Who knows what could happen when the trade deadline (August 1) arrives in two months’ time, but Zaidi’s early commitment towards proactivity is encouraging.
