It sounds like Draymond Green won’t miss an additional game for his stomp of Domantas Sabonis on Monday, but he won’t escape punishment entirely.
Shams Charania of The Athletic is reporting that it is unlikely Green will be suspended for Game 3 of the first-round series between the Warriors and Kings, but that he’s expected to be fined. The fact that Green was tossed from Game 2 makes the NBA less keen on a suspension, as does the fact that Sabonis contributed to the incident by grabbing Green’s leg.
The incident took place in the fourth quarter, when Sabonis fell to the ground while fighting for a rebound, and rolled over toward a standing Draymond Green. As Green tried to run back up the court, Sabonis appeared to grab his leg, which then landed on Sabonis’ chest. At that point, Green appeared to put his full weight onto Sabonis’ chest, and launched himself off of it. Sabonis stayed on the ground writhing in pain.
When the dust cleared, Sabonis was called for a technical foul and Green was issued a Flagrant 2 and an automatic ejection.
