Jimmy Garoppolo will finally be leaving the 49ers this offseason, and we have an early idea of where he might end up.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Garoppolo is expected to be pursued by the Texans and Raiders when the negotiating period begins on Monday. The Jets are also a possibility to pursue Garoppolo at the moment, but they are currently in “wait-and-see mode.”
Going to Houston would reunite Garoppolo with former 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans who was recently hired as the Texans’ new head coach, and former San Francisco passing game coordinator Bobby Slowik, who is their new offensive coordinator.
A move to the Raiders would reunite Garoppolo with head coach Josh McDaniels, who was the Patriots offensive coordinator when he was backing up Tom Brady from 2014-17.
Finally, going to New York would reunite Garoppolo with head coach Robert Saleh.
Wherever Jimmy goes, it sounds like it will have something to do with the relationships he cultivated in previous stops. Aside from Lamar Jackson and Aaron Rodgers, there’s a good case to be made that Garoppolo is the next best quarterback that is up for grabs this spring.
