The Warriors were down three stars on Sunday. Andrew Wiggins remained out due to a personal issue, Stephen Curry is still sidelined with a leg injury, and Draymond Green, suddenly, found himself out due to injury, too.
Green suffered a right knee contusion in the first game back from the All-Star break against the Los Angeles Lakers. After being listed as questionable for Sunday’s matchup with the also-.500 Minnesota Timberwolves, he was ruled out.
The concerning part for the Warriors is the way Steve Kerr described Green’s injury as being aggravated. It sounded like he was expected to be in the mix on Sunday before a setback.
“It flared up today, so he will be more thoroughly checked out by our medical staff,” coach Steve Kerr said on Sunday. “It was sort of unexpected. The way he came through treatment (Saturday), everything was looking good, and he had a setback today.”
Green, per Monte Poole of NBC Sports, will likely undergo an MRI. Any extended absence for him would be brutal, especially coinciding with Wiggins and the recently-acquired Gary Payton II both being out.
The Warriors’ wing depth is being challenged, most of all on the defensive end. Much will be asked of Jonathan Kuminga if Green remains sidelined for long.
