Discussions have already reportedly begun between the Giants and ace Logan Webb on a long-term contract extension.

Though Webb, 26, isn’t scheduled to hit free agency until the 2026 offseason, it makes sense why San Francisco would want to ink a deal well before that. Webb’s 2.90 ERA was 15th best among all major league starters last season, after posting a 3.03 ERA in his breakout year in 2021. He was also transcendent in that postseason, allowing just one run in 14.2 innings vs. the Dodgers.

For now, nothing is imminent considering the organization has time to work with. They also have a player who would love to stick around, as Webb explained on the latest episode of the “Chris Rose Rotation” podcast.

“I was born in the Bay Area, I grew up in Sacramento,” Webb said. “I’d love to be in Northern California for my entire career. It’s definitely important to me. Not only the security part but because I like being here and I love being a Giant. I love being a part of this team and this organization.”

Webb grew up rooting for the Giants and saw firsthand the magical run of three titles in five years. He also saw the many faces who became staples of the organization, many of which were in it for the long haul. Webb would like to add his name to that list.

“Let’s create this culture where we want to do what the ’10, ’12 and ’14 team did,” Webb said. “How do we start that? So, I’m excited to be a part of that. When you want to be a part of that, you want to be a part of it for a long period of time.

“It’d be incredible to be a Giant for life. I look at guys like Craw, Buster, I know Belt is in Toronto now but those guys. It’s always weird seeing guys like Madison Bumgarner pitch in a Diamondbacks uniform. I kind of wished he was a Giant for life, for sure. Maybe I don’t want to be in a different uniform at some point pitching against the Giants. I love the Giants.”

I would seem to be in the best interest for the Giants to keep Webb around as well. Despite his interest, Webb said he doesn’t typically get involved in contract negotiations.

“Like I said, I’ll let the smart guys do all that stuff.”
