DeMeco Ryans isn’t done poaching favorites from the 49ers coaching staff.

The newly-minted Houston Texans head coach was expected to take some talent with him, and that process is well underway.

It was reported on Sunday that the Texans are hiring Bobby Slowik as their offensive coordinator. Slowik was the 49ers’ passing game coordinator last season, and is part of a legion of up-and-coming young coaching minds from the Kyle Shanahan tree.

Ryans then turned his focus to his side of the ball. According to Aaron Wilson, who covers the Texans, Ryans is also bringing in Cory Undlin as Houston’s defensive passing game coordinator.

Undlin did not come up through the ranks with Shanahan. He’s spent time all across the NFL, but came to the 49ers after a one-year stint as the Detroit Lions’ defensive coordinator ended with him fired.

He joined the 49ers as a pass game specialist and secondary coach in 2021. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network said that he was likely to get consideration from the 49ers for their defensive coordinator post before the team hired Steve Wilks.

The coaching moves are far from over, but this marks at least the third coach, along with first-time safeties coach Stephen Adegoke (a defensive quality control with the 49ers for his first NFL coaching season this year), that Ryans has reportedly brought over from his old stomping grounds.
