Second-string running back Elijah Mitchell was the most notable name to pop up on the official injury report released Friday. Mitchell, who rushed for a team-high 51 yards in San Francisco’s divisional round win over Dallas, is listed as questionable with a groin injury.
Mitchell and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo were the only two 49ers to not participate in Friday’s practice. Cornerback Ambry Thomas is also listed as questionable with an ankle injury, but he was a limited participant on Friday, suggesting he’ll likely suit up in Sunday’s NFC Championship bout against the Eagles.
Two separate grade 2 MCL sprains have limited Mitchell to seven games this season. After eclipsing 1,000 all-purpose yards last year, he’s only racked up 286 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns this season.
Christian McCaffrey, San Francisco’s lead back, has been dealing with a calf injury but was a full participant on Friday. He, Deebo Samuel (ankle) and Charles Omenihu (oblique) also each practiced in full. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said Omenihu, who was arrested for a domestic violence allegation earlier this week, will play if he’s healthy.
The Eagles, meanwhile, warmed up to “Higher” by Creed on Friday, and they did so with a full squad.
The Eagles’ four-time Pro Bowl tackle, Lane Johnson, has been playing through a torn groin muscle and was a full participant on Friday. Johnson allowed zero pressures in 26 pass-blocking downs last week against the Giants while playing through the injury, per CBS Sports, and hasn’t allowed a single sack in the past two seasons. But the lineman will likely draw Nick Bosa, creating a must-watch matchup in the trenches.
Cornerback Avonte Maddux, who was limited earlier in the week by a toe injury, was also a full participant. The Eagles are about as healthy as possible entering Sunday.
