The Carlos Correa saga has taken another turn, with parcels of information leaking out and negotiations possibly reaching a boiling point.

It’s been over two weeks since Correa agreed to a 12-year, $315 million deal with the New York Mets. The Mets have raised the same medical concerns that forced Correa’s contract with the Giants to fall through, and now the Mets are reportedly considering walking away as well.

According to Andy Martino of SNY, the Mets have grown “very frustrated” with negotiations. New York and Correa’s agent, Scott Boras, have been reportedly working to tweak the agreement so that less of the 12-year, $315 million deal is guaranteed based on injury stipulations.

It’s still possible, if not likely, that the Mets and Correa come to an agreement. Both Mets owner Steve Cohen and Boras have publicly addressed the signing, which may complicate things.

Correa, a 28-year-old two-time All-Star at shortstop, entered this winter as one of the top-billed free agents. But an ankle and leg injury that required surgery in 2014, per multiple reports, has now given the Mets and Giants pause when trying to execute a deal.

Thursday, shortly after reporting the Mets and Correa’s camp were still negotiating in exclusivity, the New York Post’s Jon Heyman wrote that Boras opened up talks with at least one other team.

Might the Giants, who had a 13-year, $350 million deal in place with Correa what feels like ages ago, be one of those teams? Last week, Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi ruled out San Francisco under that current climate — with the Mets and Correa negotiating only with each other.

“Our understanding, as has been reported elsewhere, is they’re focused on a deal elsewhere at this point,” Zaidi said on Dec. 30. “Chances of a deal with us at this point are pretty unlikely based on their position.”
