Promising wing Jonathan Kuminga has a right foot sprain, the Warriors announced in a lengthy injury report Wednesday.
Kuminga, 20, suffered the injury during last Friday’s win against Portland. He missed all of Golden State’s double overtime victory over Atlanta to start 2023.
Earlier in the year, Kuminga had been out of the Warriors’ rotation. But recently, he’d come on strong as a defensive stopper. He pressured LaMelo Ball full-court late against Charlotte and made Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant work the game prior.
He was +21 in the Memphis victory and scored 14 points on 6-for-6 shooting against the Hornets.
Head coach Steve Kerr has marveled at how the second-year forward has embraced the role.
On the year, Kuminga is averaging 7.5 points and 3.2 rebounds in 18.6 minutes per game. His right foot sprain will be re-evaluated in one week, the team announced.
Also according to the team’s injury update, Stephen Curry (left shoulder subluxation) will be re-evaluated on Sunday. He has missed the last nine games with the injury; GSW has gone 6-3 in his absence.
In 26 games, Curry is averaging 30 points, 6.8 assists and 6.6 rebounds per game. He’s shooting 50% from the field, 43.4% from 3 and 91.9% from the foul line.
All-Star Andrew Wiggins has also been sidelined for that stretch and more. He missed 10 games with a right abductor strain then four more with a non-COVID illness. He’s been cleared for live practice and will be re-evaluated this week, the team said. There was optimism Wiggins would be back last week, but his illness prevented a swifter return to action.
JaMychal Green, a reserve forward, is dealing with a right lower leg infection. He also missed seven games in December in health and safety protocol. His “infection is resolving,” according to the Warriors, but will need time to ramp up his conditioning and will be re-evaluated in a week.
James Wiseman, who found an uptick in minutes recently, suffered a sprained left ankle during a scrimmage last week. He missed GSW’s last two games and, like Green, will be re-evaluated in a week.
