For Giants fans, nightmare doesn’t even begin to describe this.
In an unprecedented sequence of events, Carlos Correa is signing with the New York Mets less than 24 hours after he was scheduled to appear at Oracle Park for an introductory press conference with his new club in San Francisco, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network and confirmed by Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.
As you might expect, Bay Area Twitter erupted following the news on Wednesday night.
It may be time to panic about the physical https://t.co/VVnPBBmnzr

The Giants' franchise-altering offseason is for naught.
— Danny Emerman (@DannyEmerman) December 21, 2022
They finished second on Aaron Judge. They landed Carlos Correa for a week.
No more game-changing players are left on the free agent market. A complete nightmare. https://t.co/6oCusB84ZR
“The Correa press conference will be TOMORROW at 11…but it’ll be in Flushing, Queens, @JohnLundRadio!”- Greg Papa today at like 1:30 on @KNBR

It was actually really funny. Then it wasn’t.
It's unclear what Giants objected to in the physical, but they had concerns about Correa's back early in free agency and some with the team were still concerned in recent days. Regardless, a pretty disastrous result. There's no way to replace Correa this late in free agency. https://t.co/JLdHvbeWP6

Carlos Correa went from having an introductory press conference with the Giants to signing with the Mets within 24 hours.

First Arson Judge, now Correa medical, hell of an off-season. Can’t wait until ‘23 when they almost get Ohtani.
— John Lund (@JohnLundRadio) December 21, 2022
Miss out on Judge/Correa and lost Rodon. Couldn’t script a bigger nightmare.

Larry Baer can enjoy 12K fans a night next season https://t.co/pPr5SQ5HpJ
Giants should be on the phone right now with Boston to see what a Rafael Devers trade would look like and use the money from the Correa deal to extend him. That’s the only (slightly) realistic scenario I can think of that can salvage the offseason.

There’s only one word to describe this: arson.

I know everyone wants a fall guy, but …
— McCovey Chronicles (@McCoveyChron) December 21, 2022
The Giants offered Judge a record-setting deal
The Correa deal only fell through because of medicals
Rodón has never been healthy in his career
This one's not on Farhan Zaidi. Sometimes things happen.
This Correa saga is fascinating.

On the heels of Judge pursuit.
Hours away from press conf.
NYM swoop in instantly.
Will be lots of finger pointing.
Understand Giants concerns.
They still might not even lose here.

What a disaster, even if Carlos Correa has a legit medical concern. Giants teased their fans this offseason and the result will not be pretty. https://t.co/4hb8sCZXbC
— Steve Berman (@BASportsGuy) December 21, 2022
The Giants can get through this, eventually. They’ll just need to give Shohei Ohtani $600 million and Charles Johnson’s ownership stake next offseason.
— Steve Berman (@BASportsGuy) December 21, 2022
Easiest takeaway: Scott boras and giants will never be partners again, literally ever
— Tim Webb (@ThinTim) December 21, 2022
I’m speechless. No clue what to say or think. How can this even happen? The physical was good enough for the Mets but not the Giants?
— Mike Hohler (@MikeHohler77) December 21, 2022
This will set the franchise back years. I have a feeling this is the last straw for a large part of the fanbase. Oracle Park will nearly empty.
