Former 49ers star and NFL Hall of Famer Terrell Owens doesn’t seems like the best person to pick a fight with.
In a video posted by TMZ Sports, Owens is seen swinging and connecting with another man outside a CVS in Inglewood, California on Saturday around 11:30 p.m. per the Associated Press and TMZ Sports.
Owens told the Associated Press in a statement that the man in the video was the “aggressor” towards both him and a fan of his. Per the AP, Owens said the man “made offensive gestures and threatening statements” to both of them inside the store. Owens said he tried to calm the situation by leaving the store, but was followed.
“The aggressor continued threatening the fan just as he did in the store,” Owens said, per the AP. “Once again, attempting to diffuse the ongoing situation, I placed myself between the fan and the aggressor. I made verbal demands asking the aggressor to stop his threatening behavior.”
The other man “swung first,” according to Owens, and he said he felt he “felt obligated to prevent the aggressor from becoming more violent.”
You can see Owens connect with the man on a punch, sending him to the ground. It appears to de-escalate after a few minutes. Per reports, police were not called to the scene.
