Both Joc Pederson and Thairo Estrada’s names got called when Louisville Slugger announced the annual Silver Slugger finalists on Thursday.
Pederson, a 2022 All-Star, is one of nine National League finalists in the outfield. Estrada is among the five nominees at the new utility position.
The Silver Slugger is voted on by every team’s manager, plus three coaches per club, based on a combination of offensive statistics and impressions of a player’s value.
The winners will be announced on Nov. 10 during a one-hour MLB Network special. One catcher, designated hitter and utility player, plus every infield position and all three outfield slots from each league get a Silver Slugger award.
Pederson hit a team-high 23 home runs in 134 games for the Giants. He posted a strong .874 OPS — his highest since his career year in 2019. Almost all of Pederson’s damage came against right-handed pitchers.
Estrada, meanwhile, recorded career-highs in homers (14) and stolen bases (21). His 1.7 bWAR ranked second among Giants position players, only behind Mike Yastrzemski.
Neither Pederson nor Estrada has won a Silver Slugger award, and that likely won’t change this year considering the talent they’re up against.
