Dave Roberts said the Dodgers would win the World Series in 2022. He was wrong.

After winning a league-best and club-record 111 games, the Los Angeles Dodgers were eliminated from postseason contention after playing just four games, falling in Game 4 of the NLDS, 5-3, to the division rival San Diego Padres on Saturday.

LA took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning before promptly giving up five to San Diego in the frame. The Padres tied the game with three straight hits and then took the lead on Jake Cronenworth’s two RBI single.

The Dodgers have made the postseason in 10 consecutive seasons, winning the NL West in nine of those years, but have won just one World Series (in the COVID shortened 2020 season) in that stretch. LA finished 22 games ahead of San Diego in the NL West standings, but only managed to beat them one time in the postseason.

The Padres earned a trip to the NLDS by first beating the higher seeded Mets in a three-game series in New York. They will now face the Philadelphia Phillies, who just upset the second-seeded Braves, in the NLCS.
