What a day for the Golden State Warriors.
Just hours after news broke that the Dubs inked Jordan Poole to a lucrative four-year extension, Golden State also extended one of their other key wings. Andrew Wiggins is also set to sign a four-year extension with the Warriors, a $109 million deal that will actually be a significant pay cut to what he is making on his current contract.
Wiggins, 27, is making $33.6 million on his current deal, one he originally signed with Minnesota. That number will drop to $24.3 million next year, and $26.3 million the year after. Wiggins also as a player option in the final year of his extension.
The deal brings the Warriors approximate payroll for this season to $213.2 million. The current salary cap is $123.655 million with a tax level of $150.267 million, meaning the Golden State will pay a significant amount in cap penalties, giving them a total bill of somewhere between $450 and $500 million.
Earlier on Saturday, Poole reportedly inked a four-year, $140 million contract.
Wiggins was excellent for the Warriors in 2021-22, and was named an All-Star starter for the first time in his career. Wiggins was especially good during the postseason and in the NBA Finals, where he was the Warriors’ second-most reliable scorer and best perimeter defender.
