It’s clear Steve Kerr is pissed off about Draymond Green’s punch of Jordan Poole and the subsequent video leak.
The typically genial Kerr has been tight lipped and terse when discussing the incident in multiple media sessions since news broke last week. He seems to be especially upset with Green, and turned heads when he said “No comment”, in response to a question about whether Draymond had lost his trust.
Veteran Warriors reporter Monte Poole believes Kerr is very upset with Green, and sees this latest incident as a betrayal.
“If you’re Steve Kerr, it has to amount to some form of betrayal because Draymond has told him before he’s going to be better, he’s going to work on himself, he’s going to do a better job of handling his emotions,” Poole said on KNBR. “And they’ve listened to that and heard that before.
“The other day when [Green] spoke for 40 minutes, he seemed sincere. I came away saying ‘okay, Draymond said all the right things.’ But if you’re the Warriors you’re thinking ‘He’s said these things to us before so what does it mean?’
“That’s why I think Steve is so conflicted and hurt by it. I think in his mind this is a form of betrayal. That this is something that wasn’t supposed to happen because Draymond said that he would be better and this happens anyway. That’s why Steve is not willing to engage about his feelings about it, but you can kind of tell. You can kind of tell he’s very, very, very ticked off about this.”
Green apologized and admitted wrongdoing again and again during his media session on Saturday, and said that he’d be spending some time away from the team. It is unclear when he will be back, or if the Warriors and Kerr have accepted his apology.
“When I asked him the other day ‘Can this affect the trust issue?’ and he said ‘No comment.’ What does that tell you?” Poole concluded rhetorically.
