Camilo Doval, one of the Giants’ brightest stars of 2022, won the National League Reliever of the Month award for September.

Doval, 25, went nine-for-nine in save opportunities in the month, posting a 1.38 ERA with 16 strikeouts in 13 innings.

On the season, Doval has recorded 27 saves and a 2.53 ERA. He added a sinker to his repertoire midway through the season, effectively using it as a tool to attack left-handed hitters.

With the sinker, Doval’s three-pitch arsenal features a cutter that touched 104 mph in September, a low-90s slider and the two-seamer that can also hit triple digits.

Doval unseated Edwin Díaz, who had won the NL Reliever of the Month award in June, July and August. Doval also earned the distinction last September when he first emerged as the Giants’ ninth-inning option.

In the American League, Emmanuel Clase was named the reliever of the month. Clase leads all pitchers with 41 saves.
