The 49ers have their first in-season injury worry of the season.

According to the team, running back Elijah Mitchell has suffered a knee injury and is out for the remainder of the team’s season opener against the Chicago Bears.

Mitchell had six carries for 41 yards before his injury and was relieved by Jeff Wilson Jr., who took his first carry with 8:43 left in the first half. The 49ers lead 7-0 at the half.

San Francisco has Wilson Jr. and undrafted rookie Jordan Mason as their two active running backs. Third-round pick Ty-Davis Price was made inactive, but will obviously be involved in future games if Mitchell is out for any extended period.

Kyle Shanahan said after the game that the training staff initially believed Mitchell would be able to return, but realized shortly after he couldn’t. He is unsure what the severity of his injury is.
