It wouldn’t be the preseason if there wasn’t a soft tissue injury to talk about.
About a half hour before the 49ers kicked off their preseason slate with a game against the Green Bay Packers, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that running back Elijah Mitchell has a hamstring and is not expected to play in the preseason.
He reports that Mitchell is expected to be ready for the start of the season. That would put him in the same boat as the likes of Charvarius Ward (groin) and Emmanuel Moseley (hamstring). Arik Armstead has a chance to return for next week’s joint practices in Minnesota with the Vikings.
Also nursing injuries are Jaylon Moore (lower leg strain) and Hassan Ridgeway (quad). Ridgeway has yet to practice with the 49ers this training camp.
While there are 20 49ers players who will not participate in Friday’s preseason opener, Trey Lance and Mike McGlinchey will.
Here’s the list of players who won’t participate:
- Jimmy Garoppolo
- Jeff Wilson Jr.
- Kyle Juszczyk
- Trent Williams
- George Kittle
- Deebo Samuel
- Brandon Aiyuk
- Fred Warner
- Dre Greenlaw
- Nick Bosa
- Azeez Al-Shaair
- Samson Ebukam
- Charles Omenihu
- Jimmie Ward
With injuries:
- Elijah Mitchell (hamstring)
- Jaylon Moore (lower leg)
- Charvarius Ward (groin)
- Emmanuel Moseley (hamstring)
- Arik Armstead (knee sprain)
- Hassan Ridgeway (quad)
And with that, the preseason is just about underway.
