The Giants traded Darin Ruf to the Mets Tuesday morning and continued selling as the deadline neared.

Roughly an hour before the 3 p.m. deadline, San Francisco traded veteran catcher Curt Casali to the Seattle Mariners. Rehabbing starter Matt Boyd is also involved in the deal, according to multiple reports.

Fansided’s Robert Murray was the first to report the Casali move.

In exchange for the two players, who are both currently on the injured list, the Giants are reportedly receiving minor-league reliever Michael Stryffeler.

Stryffeler, 26, has a 2.27 ERA at the Double-A level this year. He’s struck out 57 batters and walked 19 in 35.2 innings.

Casali was one of the most well-liked and respected members of the Giants’ clubhouse. The glove-first veteran backed up Buster Posey during the 2021 season and hit .231 in 44 games this year. He’s currently recovering from an oblique strain, and had gone 0-for-7 with seven strikeouts for the River Cats in three rehab games.

In the month of May, Casali was arguably San Francisco’s hottest hitter. He homered four times and posted a 1.153 OPS in 14 May games.

Casali caught Luis Castillo, the Mariners’ headline addition, when they were teammates in Cincinnati. Seattle likely valued that familiarity.

Boyd, meanwhile, hasn’t pitched for San Francisco this year as he recovers from flexor tendon surgery. He threw a bullpen over the weekend and is expected to be ready to start games this season. The Giants had signed him to a one-year, $5.2 million deal this past winter.

As of 2:10 p.m., the Giants had yet to move All-Stars Carlos Rodón and Joc Pederson. But given the way they’ve behaved so far on Deadline Day, deals involving those soon-to-be free agents remain likely.
