It wouldn’t be the end of the Grizzlies-Warriors series without one last Dillon Brooks story.
The maligned Memphis guard was excellent in Game 6, leading the Grizzlies with 30 points, and was mostly respectful in his postgame comments regarding Golden State.
He did make one statement, however, that turned some heads.
“We’re young, and they’re getting old,” Brooks said. “They know that we are going to come every single year.”
It appears that Brooks believes the upstart Grizzlies are destined to take over the mantle as the team to beat in the Western Conference, and that it will happen soon considering the Warriors are ‘old.’
“This is good motivation, good learning, playing against two of the best shooters in history,” Brooks said. “Going against them was an amazing feeling. It’s big for us, and we’re going to take this throughout the summer and be ready to do it again.”
He also believes the series may have gone different had Ja Morant not gotten hurt, but didn’t make any excuses.
“A hundred percent,” Brooks said when asked if Morant’s presence might have changed the outcomes of Game 4 or 6. “Ja is one of the best point guards in this league — you guys know that — obviously it would change, but we made do with what we had.”
Brooks, who received a Flagrant 2 for a foul on Gary Payton II in Game 2, mixed it up one more time in Game 6, earning a Flagrant for a shove on Stephen Curry before exchanging words with Klay Thompson.
