Evan Longoria and Tommy La Stella are progressing toward a return, as they’ll both begin rehab assignments in Sacramento on Tuesday.

Neither Longoria (finger) nor La Stella (Achilles) have debuted for the Giants in 2022. The veterans have been working out on the Oracle Park field together recently.

The Giants announced Longoria and La Stella’s imminent rehab assignments in a medical update.

The club’s release also said Joc Pederson (abductor strain) is available to come off the bench for San Francisco’s game Tuesday against the Dodgers.

LaMonte Wade Jr., who has been rehabbing an injured knee, is also nearing a return. He’s scheduled to play in Sacramento tonight as well, but posted an Instagram story from Los Angeles on Sunday night.

SF manager Gabe Kapler has said the Dodgers series is under consideration for Wade, but the team wants to do what’s best for the outfielder’s health. With left-handed pitcher Julio Urías starting on Tuesday, Wade likely wouldn’t be in the starting lineup anyway.

Also noted in the team’s medical update: Anthony DeSclafani began playing catch on Monday, a positive sign for the starter who’s dealing with ankle inflammation. A week ago, DeSclafani said doctor’s orders were to rest for two to three weeks, but he hoped to resume throwing before then.

Mike Yastrzemski is also nearing a return from his bout with COVID-19. He is eligible to come off the COVID list on Wednesday — 10 days after testing positive. Yastrzemski, Dominic Leone and Zack Littell have each tested positive. Players can exit the COVID list after 10 days or if they return two consecutive negative PCR tests between days five and 10.

Ahead of Monday’s roster cutdown deadline, the Giants optioned Jason Krizan and Yunior Marte to Triple-A Sacramento. Every team must trim their roster down from 28 to 26. Once Longoria, La Stella, Wade, Yastrzemski and DeSclafani return, SF will have to make several more moves.
