At least one suitor is reportedly willing to pay a premium for Deebo Samuel.
According to Pro Football Network’s Tony Pauline, the New York Jets are all in on offering their first-round pick for the star receiver.
“What do the Jets do with the 10th pick?” Pauline writes. “No surprise here, but word in league circles is the Jets, and most specifically Joe Douglas, are all in on using that pick to acquire Deebo Samuel.”
A top 10 pick for Samuel seems pretty decent if the 49ers are resigned to trading him, but could they ask for more? The Jets reportedly previously offered second-round picks No. 35, 38 and their third-round pick No. 69 for Tyreek Hill, who eventually went to Miami for five draft picks (first-, second- and fourth-round picks in 2022 along with fourth- and sixth-round selections in 2023.)
When you take that into account, Samuel, who is two years younger than Hill, could be worth even more than a high pick in this year’s draft. If the Jets are willing to part with No. 10, it would seem unlikely that throwing in a second-rounder as well would make it a dealbreaker.
Meanwhile, the notion that Samuel has no interest in staying with the 49ers only ramped up after this video surfaced on Saturday night.
