The Giants might be down another left-handed hitter.
Steven Duggar left Thursday’s game vs. the Mets in the second inning, wincing after fouling off a Carlos Carrasco changeup. Duggar appeared to immediately know he had an issue, and left the field under his own power with trainer Dave Groeschner. The Giants announced it is an oblique injury for Duggar, meaning he could miss some time.
The Giants are already without left-handed hitters LaMonte Wade Jr. and Tommy La Stella, and right-handed slugger Evan Longoria. The pitching staff also took a hit during the series in New York, when starter Alex Cobb was placed on the 10-day Injured List with a Grade 1 groin strain. Luckily, Cobb is expected to miss limited time.
Duggar is off to a slow start this year, slashing .200/.237/.286 in his first 38 at-bats. Duggar was solid last season, posting a career high .767 OPS. Hhis absence will probably mean more time for Austin Slater in centerfield.
