Stephen Curry is feeling good about his status for Game 1 on Saturday.
The Warriors point guard told teammate Draymond Green as much when he joined him on “The Draymond Green Show” this week, indicating that he expects to play in the first ever playoff game at Chase Center, vs. the No. 6 seeded Denver Nuggets.
“The goal has always been Game 1, the goal still remains Game 1 and I’m very optimistic it will be Game 1,” Curry said. “I just want to be available and we know what time of year it is. We haven’t been in the playoffs for two years and it’s kind of weird to think about that. And I’m so freaking juiced because you know how much I love that environment, first time in this building it will be interesting.”
Thursday will prove to be a tipping point for Curry’s status. Steve Kerr said on KNBR that if Curry is able to make it through a 5-on-5 scrimmage on Thursday, he will likely be made available for Game 1.
Curry has missed the last 12 games with a foot injury sustained vs. the Celtics on March 16. The Warriors went 6-6 in the games without Curry.
“So I don’t want to miss none of it, and that’s the goal,” Curry concluded. “It would be hard pressed for anything to keep me out of that, but we’ll see.”
