Klay Thompson apologized on Wednesday for voicing frustration about some Warriors fans the day before.
During Tuesday’s media availability, Thompson complained about bandwagon fans, claiming they are the ones getting on players like the inconsistent Nemanja Bjelica. He said they aren’t real fans and weren’t the same people supporting the team during the lean years.
“Nobody’s appreciated by the fans,” Thompson said. “Fans are so … fans, man. The real fans know what’s up. I’m talking about the fans prior to winning championships. The fans who sat through many years of not winning.
“But these new fans who come around and expect greatness and they weren’t anywhere to be found prior. They can get away. We can forget those folks. They don’t deserve to rep the Warriors.”
Thompson walked those comments back at bit on Wednesday, posting a vid from his boat apologizing and changing his tune on bandwagon fans.
“Bandwagon fans are a good thing,” Thompson said. “It means you have turned people over to your style of play. So, sorry if I offended anybody, not my intention. We welcome all Warrior fans around the globe.”
