Buster Posey isn’t a member of the Giants anymore, but that doesn’t mean he’s safe from being roasted by his former teammates.
That’s exactly what Brandon Belt did when he hopped on “Tolbert & Copes” from Scottsdale, Ariz. on Monday. Asked to recount the funniest moment related to Posey’s career, Belt recalled the time that Posey did a brutal face plant while trying to slide into third base vs. the Marlins in 2016.
“Funniest Buster moment for me has to be when we were in Miami, and I can’t remember if he was going for a triple or if he was tagging up and going to third base, but he tried to do a head first slide and it was the worst thing I’ve ever seen in my life,” Belt said on KNBR.
Posey was indeed attempting to advance to third on a Brandon Crawford single, in a game that was tied in the 11th inning. Posey’s hands got caught under him, meaning he quite literally led with his head on the slide, his face scraping across the bag.
“He scraped up his entire face, it was so bad,” Belt continued. “The entire right side of his chin was all scraped up. The ugliest thing you’ve ever seen in your life but it was hilarious to me.”
The video evidence confirms Belt’s account.
It might have been a rough moment for Posey, but at least his first baseman got some joy out of it.
