The vast majority of the last week was an exercise in anxiety from the 49ers’ perspective. Would Trent Williams be able to play? The All-Pro tackle has been the NFL’s best left-side protecter and run game aggressor this season, but missed out with an elbow injury against the Rams in Week 18.
This time, it was a high ankle sprain, as Jimmy Garoppolo revealed this week. On Monday, Kyle Shanahan had said that if it was a clear high ankle sprain, he would have ruled Williams out. Two days later, Shanahan said that he and Williams both believed he would play.
That belief held true on Sunday.
Williams was not among the 49ers’ inactives list and told Josina Anderson that he’s “all good.”
Below is the 49ers’ full list of inactives:
- WR Mohamed Sanu
- QB Nate Sudfeld
- RB Jeff Wilson Jr.
- LB Marcell Harris
- CB Deommodore Lenoir
- OL Aaron Banks
- DL Maurice Hurst
For the Rams, backup tackle Joe Noteboom and safety Taylor Rapp (concussion) will miss out:
- QB Bryce Perkins
- S Taylor Rapp
- OLB Chris Garrett
- OLB Terrell Lewis
- OL Joe Noteboom
- OL Tremayne Anchrum Jr.
- TE Brycen Hopkins
