There is no topic like a talented wide receiver hitting the free agent market, and it appears Odell Beckham Jr. will do just that.
After a tempestuous season with the Cleveland Browns, Beckham Jr. will reportedly get his wish and be waived by the team, which means whoever claims him will have to pay his $7.5 million salary.
On Monday, Kyle Shanahan said that’s why the 49ers will not claim him off waivers.
“Yeah, for that reason, we won’t be able to put a claim on him,” Shanahan said. “Just for the financial reasons.”
But according to Ian Rapoport, there is a sizable chance, given his salary, that Beckham Jr. won’t be claimed, in addition to his not-so veiled threats that he will make life difficult for any team that claims him that he does not want to go to.
According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Focus, Beckham Jr. wants free agency, and wants to join Seattle. Multiple reports, along with Florio’s, suggest the 49ers and Saints as other viable suitors.
Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll seemed awfully confident when asked about acquiring Beckham Jr. on Monday.
