Angel Hernandez part of umpire crew for NLDS

He’s baaaaaack.

Controversial umpire Angel Hernandez has once again been added to a postseason crew, and it happens to be the one that will call the Giants’ upcoming matchups in the NLDS.

Hernandez, who has been voted as one of the worst umpires in baseball by player surveys over the years, called two Giants games this season. One vs. the Dodgers on June 28 wasn’t terrible in totality, but which featured a number of baffling calls, the majority of which negatively affected the Giants.

Hernandez’s calls favored the Dodgers by 0.63 runs, and cost the Giants 0.53 runs. His three worst missed calls in terms of change in run expectancy were all against the Giants.

Hernandez was only behind the dish for one other Giants game this season, a 5-1 Giants win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Sept. 2. In that one, he cost the Giants 0.45 runs.

We won’t know until the series starts which games Hernandez is behind the dish, but expect some antics when he gets the call.
