The 49ers made five transactions on Tuesday to cut their roster down to 80 players.

San Francisco parted ways with DL Shalique Calhoun, CB B.W. Webb, WR River Cracraft, OL Corbin Kaufusi and placed LB Mychal Kendricks on the injured reserve with turf toe. Kendricks will not be able to return to the 49ers active roster this season, but could play elsewhere if he’s released.

The team chose not to part ways with DT Maurice Hurst who is expected to be out at least a month with a high ankle sprain. The 49ers apparently determined at this point that Hurst is too good to lose even if it means he’ll miss the start of the season.

Kendricks, a nine-year veteran, is also expected to be out at least a month with the toe injury he sustained in Saturday’s preseason opener. If the 49ers had waited to place Kendricks on IR following next week’s initial cuts to 53 players, he would have been eligible to return to action after a minimum of three weeks.
