Kevin Durant and Draymond Green have hinted that the Warriors brass mishandled the fallout of their infamous verbal altercation in the past, but never this explicitly.
In an interview of Durant conducted by Green for Bleacher Report, the former teammates agree that Steve Kerr and Bob Myers ‘fucked it up’ when it came to trying to mediate a conflict resolution with Durant and Green, something that ultimately proved to be a tipping point in Durant’s decision to leave the Warriors.
“How much did our argument against the Clippers drive you to ultimately leave the Warriors?” Draymond asked Durant.
“It wasn’t the argument, it was how Steve Kerr acted like it didn’t happen,” KD responded. “Bob Myers tried to just discipline you and think that would put the mask over everything.”
Green went on to explain that Kerr and Myers tried to get him to apologize to Durant. Green explained to them that he and Durant could work things out, but that they shouldn’t be involved. Kerr and Myers then decided to suspend Green for a game, a decision that made him furious.
“Y’all are about to f**k this up,” Green recalled saying. “I said, ‘The only person that can make this right is me and K [Durant]. And there is nothing that y’all can do, and y’all are going to f**k this up.’ And in my opinion, they f****d it up.”
“I think so too,” Durant said.
Durant ultimately said the people in charge of the Warriors decided to sweep the issue under the rug rather than air things out in the open, something that put Durant off.
The incident in question took place during a game with the Clippers in 2018, when Green and Durant got in an argument on the bench that turned personal after Green made a turnover heading into overtime.
