Clinton-Dix, 28, didn’t play last season after being signed by the Cowboys on a one-year deal. He was expected to be a significant part of the defense after starting 16 games with the Bears in 2019, but was cut before the season started.
Before last season, Clinton-Dix started every game of his six-year career. A former first-round pick by the Packers in 2014, Clinton-Dix made the Pro Bowl and was named a second-team All-Pro in 2016 with Green Bay.
The 49ers have begun looking for reinforcements at safety due to Tartt’s turf toe issue that is still not healed since he sustained it last November. Jimmie Ward and Marcell Harris sit atop the depth chart currently.
