Have the 49ers found their backup quarterback? Kyle Juszczyk sure hopes so.

The 49ers fullback confirmed San Francisco’s reported interest in Joe Flacco during his afternoon hit on the Papa & Lund Show. Juszczyk says the two, who were teammates in Baltimore from 2013-16, recently spoke on the phone, and that he thinks Flacco would be a perfect fit. Flacco played for 49ers quarterback coach Rich Scangarello in Denver and Kyle Shanahan has mentioned he’d work well in his offense.

“I just got done talking to him a little bit,” Juszczyk said on KNBR. “We’re both hopeful that something gets done. That would be awesome. I can’t say enough great things about Joe. What an incredible addition to our locker room he would be. He’s just a great guy to work with, and someone that would be great for Jimmy as well. I hope it gets done.”

Flacco, 36, spent last season as the Jets’ backup quarterback, starting four games, all losses. With Andy Dalton, Tyrod Taylor, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Jacoby Brissett all signed, Flacco may be the best veteran QB available on the open market, with Alex Smith’s status for next season in question.

Flacco made $1.562 million last season with the Jets and would be an incredibly cheap option, one that also would indicate the 49ers are not looking to replace Jimmy Garoppolo this season. It is still likely they could look to improve the position in the draft.
