The Golden State Warriors, now 19-16, have a Draymond Green injury to worry about, but also have just two games remaining before the All-Star Break. Green departed Sunday night’s blowout, 117-91 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers in the second quarter with a left ankle sprain.
Luckily, head coach Steve Kerr said, Green’s ankle sprain is not expected to be a serious one. He said he spoke to Green at halftime, after he’d been ruled out.
“He said he didn’t think it was too bad,” Kerr said.
Green, 30, has been playing 30 minutes a game and averaging a career-high 8.7 assists per game.
As much as ever, the Warriors have leaned on him not just for leadership, but as that irreplaceable engine of the team. With a roster composed largely of young players and/or guys still getting accustomed to Steve Kerr’s system, his value, both as a defensive end and as a high post, top of the arc facilitator, is higher than it’s been in a long time.
