For Will Clark the wait will continue for another year.
Originally slated to have his No. 22 retired by the team in 2020, the pandemic postponed the ceremony and will likely continue to do so, according to Giants Executive VP of Business Operations, Mario Alioto.
“We talked to Will the other day, and we’re most likely going to wait until 2022,” Alioto said on KNBR. “We want to make sure we have a full house with 100 percent capacity.”
Though it’s not out of the question that fans could be let into Oracle Park this season, the odds that they’ll be able to fill the 41,915 stadium are remote. For such a beloved player, the organization wants to ensure Clark is honored in front of a packed stadium.
Clark was a six-time All-Star with the Giants from 1986-93, and the NLCS MVP in 1989. He’s already a member of the Giants Wall of Fame.
