Lakers announcer says Curry is ‘untouchable,’ gets too many foul calls

Anybody who watches Stephen Curry with regularity knows that he doesn’t draw fouls with the same frequency of his superstar counterparts. Don’t believe the anecdotal evidence? The numbers back it up.

During the 2018-19 season, Curry drew an average of 3.6 fouls per game, good for 47th in the league. For context James Harden draws 7.7 per game, Lebron James 5.8, Luka Doncic 5.6, Trae Young 5.3, Damian Lillard 4.9, etc. Even Tim Hardaway Jr. averages more fouls per game (3.8) than Curry.

Apparently Lakers announcer and former great James Worthy isn’t watching a ton of ball outside of LA. During the latest warm up game between the Lakers and Mavericks, Worthy claimed that Curry, like Harden, can’t be touched or it’s a foul.

“The hand check, they’ve taken that away from the game,” Worthy said. “You used to be able to use your forearm, as long as you didn’t extend it, that’s been good defense throughout the NBA. I think that would challenge some of these scorers like Harden and Curry who are untouchable, you can’t even breathe on them, or it’s a foul.”

Yet another example of a former player talking about how much better the game used to be, while accidentally admitting they don’t watch much of today’s action.
