Now Warriors getting sick as bug sweeps through locker room

If the disastrous second half against the Mavericks made you ill, you’re not alone.

The Warriors, trading injuries for illnesses, are a sickly team these days as a virus appears to be going through the locker room. It started with Omari Spellman, who has missed the past two games with an illness. It’s getting worse.

Steve Kerr told reporters Monday in San Antonio that Willie Cauley-Stein, who’s now sick, did not travel on this brief road trip, which will finish Thursday in Minnesota. D’Angelo Russell and Ky Bowman made the trip but did not make the practice, sitting out with an illness. Their statuses are unclear for Tuesday’s game.

If they sit, that would make an already shorthanded Warriors club almost comically decimated. For sure remaining would be Alec Burks, Marquese Chriss, Jacob Evans, Draymond Green, Damion Lee and Glenn Robinson III. Unknown would be Spellman, Alen Smailagic, who could come up from G League Santa Cruz, and Eric Paschall (hip) and Kevon Looney (abdominal soreness), who have missed time with injury.

Of course, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson will be out, as a season that was wiped out immediately by injury and has been buoyed recently by an uptick in play and four wins in five games continues. One step forward, one step back.
