Be ready, Richard Sherman. Could the 49ers have another top wide receiver to deal with in the NFC playoffs?
Antonio Brown worked out for the Saints on Friday, according to multiple reports — including from Brown himself, who put the tryout waiver he had to sign on Instagram, captioning it, “Back to business.”
ESPN’s Adam Schefter characterized it as “due diligence,” perhaps overly kindly toward a team debating on a player who likely would go directly to the Commissioner’s Exempt list if he is signed over multiple allegations of misconduct, including one of sexual assault.
While a pairing of Michael Thomas and Brown would be awfully helpful for Drew Brees, it seems unlikely New Orleans would actually bring the former Steelers star in. ESPN reported the Saints were working out former Redskins wide receiver Maurice Harris, too, as they seem to be looking around in case someone goes down this week.
Brown, whose tumultuous 2019 began as a disgruntled Steeler, continued in Oakland, where he eventually was cut after bizarre helmet and frost-bitten-foot sagas, then appeared to finish as a Patriot, where he played one game, was accused of sexual assault and, separately, sexual misconduct by an artist — whom he then sent threatening text messages.
Brown is still under investigation by the league, but if he is ever cleared, the Saints may be interested.
