Happy Dubon Day.
Mauricio Dubon is getting the call up to the majors, The Athletic reported Tuesday, ahead of the Giants-Diamondbacks game at Oracle Park.
Dubon was going to see time in September, but the Giants wanted to see the infielder a little bit ahead of schedule.
“He’s got instincts, and he’s thinking about the game and he’s always thinking about the next play,” Triple-A Sacramento manager Dave Brundage told KNBR last week.
Dubon, who was acquired from Milwaukee for Drew Pomeranz and Ray Black, was hitting .321 with Sacramento with four home runs in 25 games. In 123 total games this season, the 25-year-old is slashing .302/.345/.477.
This will not quite be Dubon’s major league debut, as he received a pair of at-bats in two games with the Brewers in July, becoming the second player from Honduras to reach the big leagues. Dubon lived in Honduras until he was 15, when he impressed at a camp and was brought to Sacramento with a host family.
